Meet Nino Amato
Candidate for Madison Council District 19
Nino Amato has dedicated his professional career to solving complex challenges, bringing people together, and creating real change. As a leader in environmental and economic sustainability, bi-partisan public policy, and community advocacy, he has worked with Democrats and Republicans to expand renewable energy resource options, while strengthening our communities commitment to economic and enviormtal sustainability and protecting the rights of Wisconsin's 1.4 million elderly and people with disabilities.
Nino has been endorsed by Kristen Slack, who was overwhelmingly elected by District 19 residents in April of 2023, (click to see all endorsements). Slack won the election with 65% of the vote, but after she had to step down for family reasons, the mayor appointed her opponent John Guequierre—the same candidate voters had already rejected.
While political appointments are sometimes necessary in government, voters deserve a leader who reflects their choice, not someone placed into office despite the will of the people. Nino is running to restore that trust, ensuring District 19 has a representative who is truly accountable to the environmental concerns of residents and their neighborhoods.
Nino's experience includes serving as Co-Vice Chair of Governor Jim Doyle’s Task Force on Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy and teaching sustainability policy and practices and climate change mitigation at UW-Platteville. As former President of the Coalition of Wisconsin Aging & Health Groups, Nino helped protect social security and health care benefits of Wisconsin's 1.4 million elderly and people with disabilities.
Now, Nino Amato is running for Madison’s 19th District City Council seat to ensure residents have a leader who listens, engages, and puts their priorities first!

"I have consistently spoken out against the city’s autocratic, top-down West Area Regional Planning Process which will destroy the natural character of our single & multi-family residential neighborhoods. As your 19th Dist. Alder, I will preserve & protect our urban trees, street tree canopies, greenway forests, and neighborhoods from being destroyed by out-of-state developers and their special interest groups.”
